RICHMOND (KRON) — A little girl was killed Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle in Richmond.

The driver was identified as the victim’s father, police said.

The incident happened at around 2:30 p.m. outside a home in the 300 block of South 35th Street, according to Richmond Fire Department.

Images from the scene show several officers gathered around a truck stopped over a sidewalk.

According to police officials, the father had been pulling out of the driveway when the girl ran towards the truck to say goodbye.

The 2-year-old child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Richmond police are investigating the collision.

The driver is cooperating in the investigation. Police said at this time it appears this was an accident. Richmond police chaplains were called to the scene to offer support. Police added that a peer support team was also activated for the responding officers.
