NATIONAL (KRON) — On Saturday afternoon Charlotte, N.C. Chief Kerr Putney, announced he has decided to release video footage of police shooting 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott.

Charlotte police will be releasing both police body cam and dash came footage from Tuesday’s shooting of Scott, a black man, shot by a black police officer in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Chief Putney stated he can now release the footage without adversely impacting the investigation. He said if he were to do so before this point, it indeed would have had an adverse impact on the investigation.

He expressed he wanted to release the videos as soon as possible to deliver the facts and footage to state where the investigation stands at this point.

Chief Putney says Scott was “absolutely in possession of a handgun”.

Officers initially saw the handgun when Scott was in the vehicle, according to Chief Putney. Police also claim Scott had marijuana in the vehicle.

There is no definitive visual evidence that what Scott pointed at officers was a handgun.

Chief maintains no single piece of evidence will prove exactly what happened.

The two videos will be released by the end of Saturday.
