SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The late longtime Bay Area radio host Ray Taliaferro will be memorialized next month with a public celebration of life at the Common Wealth Club.
Taliaferro went missing from his Paducah, Kentucky home Nov. 10 and was later found deceased after a week-long search.
The former radio host is often remembered for his love of the arts and life of service.
During his career, Taliaferra worked for KRON4 before becoming a radio host at KGO AM-810, where he because the first African-American commentator in a major U.S. city.
Taliaferro will be honored with a celebration of life Jan. 12 at the Commonwealth Club’s headquarters on the Embarcadero.
The memorial is open to the public.
Among the invited speakers are former mayors Willie Brown and Frank Jordan as well as former supervisor Angela Alioto.
Taliaferro’s family is asking donations in the radio host’s name to be given to the Dementia Society.
Prior to his passing, Taliaferro showed signs of the disease.
The memorial begins at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12.
