Car lands in Antioch canal, passengers manage to escape

ANTIOCH (KRON) — All of the people who were inside a car that crashed into a canal in Antioch are now safe.

Fire Marshal Robert Marshall says that the car crashed, landing in the deep and fast-flowing canal Wednesday afternoon around 1:30.

He wasn’t sure how many people were in the car when it crashed, but said that everybody made it out safely.

“By the time we got there, (the car’s occupants) were out of the vehicle,” Marshall said. “We helped at least one person off of the vehicle

and onto shore.”

According to reports, bystanders jumped into the water and broke the car windows to get the passengers out of the car.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Fire crews stood by until a tow truck could get the car out, Marshall said.
