An East Bay teenager is in the trauma unit at John Muir Medical center on Thursday night after a devastating accident.

He’s been there for six days and recently left the intensive care unit.

His excruciating injuries include a crushed pelvis after the car he was riding in fell on top of him.

The teen was joyriding with friends in the Martinez Yacht Club parking lot.

Mehdi Ziani’s family tells KRON4 he is in the trauma unit right now.

He is suffering from internal bleeding, a crushed pelvis, torn urethra, broken tailbone, and possible nerve damage in his right leg.

On Saturday, the 16-year-old was hanging outside the window of a moving vehicle while the driver was doing donuts in the parking lot.

At some point, the car toppled over and fell on top of the 10th grader.

The Alhambra High School student-athlete has endured hours of surgery. His family tells KRON4 at times, the young athlete’s spirit is broken.

Right now, Mehdi was nearing the end of football season and looking to start basketball in a few weeks.

Instead, his road to recovery is unclear.

Right now, Mehdi’s father plans on taking an extended leave from work to help aid in his recovery.

The family is hoping to raise funds to help with hospital fees and loss of work.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Mehdi’s medical fund.
