A car was found down an embankment off Grizzly Peak Boulevard Friday morning.

And on Friday afternoon, KRON4 has learned a body was found near the car.

The White Prius went down at Marlborough Terrace near Berkeley/Oakland border. 

The driver of the car was not found and police say it may be connected to a missing person case. 

Police have not yet released further details on the missing person. 

The body has not been identified.

Here is the full statement from police:

Today, Friday March 6, 2018 at approximately 8:30 am the Oakland Police Department Missing Persons investigators went to the area of Grizzly Peak to search for a missing person. During their search, investigators observed a vehicle that had gone over the embankment in the 4900 block of Grizzly Peak.

Investigators requested the Oakland Fire Department to respond to the scene and assist with a search and possible rescue. Once on scene, Oakland Fire personnel reported the vehicle was unoccupied. A search of the surrounding area was conducted with negative results. 

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue members accompanied by search dogs began a larger more extensive search. A deceased female adult was located.

The Alameda County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to recover the female. The Alameda County coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death as well as confirm the identification of the female.  

The Oakland Police Department Media Office does not anticipate any additional updates regrading this case until next week.
