Out with the old and in with the new, as BART rolls out its shiny updated trains in San Francisco.
So, what are the chances of you finding one?
It didn’t take very long to catch one of the trains in Daly City. But for many of the commuters KRON4 spoke with, they say it’s a refreshing update.
The old familiar BART trains are getting replaced with sleek, futuristic-looking cars with a hopefully more efficient design.
“It’s a big improvement, a major jump from what it was,” commuter Bailey said.
Some commuters between Daly City and Warm Springs have been patiently waiting to ride the new model.
The new cars on the tracks have updated bicycle racks, bright blue and lime green seats, and three doors on each side for quicker passenger boarding.
“And I also like that flat screen that was pointed out to me,” Bailey said. “I think it will be way more accessible for people to find out where they’re going and where they wanna get more efficiently than the old BART trains.”
The new trains also have fewer seats, allowing more people to stand during those busy rush hours.
However, this update has not come without hitches. Technical challenges have kept BART from deploying the new cars system-wide.
Jenna Gottlieb who commutes every day says she wants to see more throughout the city.
“Every BART train should be the new BART train,” Gottlieb said.
By Spring 2022, BART is hoping to have more than 770 of these new cars moving through the system.
Right now, they have 45.
