CAMPBELL (KRON) — A San Jose man, who investigators say was in possession of a replica firearm, led officers on a chase before being arrested on charges including drug possession, according to Campbell Police on Monday.
Investigators say an officer noticed the suspect and another person engaged in what appeared to be drug activity near the Safeway store on Winchester Boulevard in Campbell on Sunday.
Upon seeing the officer, the suspect fled in his vehicle at a high rate of speed, running a red light at San Tomas Expressway and Budd Avenue, nearly causing a collision, according to police.
Officers eventually stopped the vehicle and found that the driver was on probation. Investigators say he was in possession of methamphetamine for sale and was also under the influence. Investigators say he was also in possession of a checkbook that had been stolen from an auto burglary at the Santana Row shopping center.
During the search of the suspect’s vehicle, officers found what appeared to be a Dan Wesson handgun (similar to a Colt Python). Investigators say after further inspection, they determined it was actually a pellet gun.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Ali Abdi, was arrested on charges including felony reckless evading, possession for sale of methamphetamine, under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, and violation of probation.
