CAMPBELL (KRON) — A Campbell chiropractor accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old female patient was convicted this week, but authorities are still concerned there may be more victims, including children.

Dr. Manfred Alkhas, the owner of Good Life Chiropractic on 280 E. Hamilton Avenue, was convicted on one count of sexual battery by fraudulent representation this past Monday, Campbell Police Department  announced Thursday. He faces up to four years in prison.

Alkhas has worked as a chiropractor for over 23 years, and he previously taught and worked with youth in the Assyrian community.

“Based on his work in the chiropractic field and the number of patients he has seen, along with his access to children, there are still concerns that other patients or former students were touched inappropriately by Dr. Alkhas,” police officials said in a statement.

“It is the ultimate goal of the Campbell Police Department to ensure the safety and well-being of victims while successfully prosecuting these crimes,” said Campbell Police Captain Gary Berg.

In July 2013, the Campbell Police Department began investigating allegations of sexual battery and penetration with a foreign object by a chiropractor. A lengthy investigation showed evidence that Alkhas had sexually assaulted a 21 year old female patient. Dr. Alkhas was arrested and charged with sexual battery.

In June 2014, a preliminary hearing was held and Alkhas was “held to answer” for the felony charge of sexual battery. Since that time, he has been allowed to continue practicing chiropractics with restrictions by the California Chiropractic Board, pending the criminal case.

“The Campbell Police Department would like to acknowledge the hard work of the District Attorney’s Office, especially that of Deputy District Attorney Alaleh Kianerci. There were a number of factors that made this a difficult case to prosecute and Ms. Kianerci’s preparation and dedication resulted in the conviction of Dr. Alkhas,”  police officials said.

A second count of sexual penetration on a person unconscious of the act because of fraudulent representation resulted in the jury being split 10-2, with 10 jurors finding him guilty. The Court declared a mistrial on that count, according to Campbell police.

During the trial, a second victim who had been identified after Alkhas’ arrest, testified that she had been sexually assaulted by Dr. Alkhas when she was approximately 5-7 years old. She testified that while attending an Assyrian community center in San Jose in the 1980s, Dr. Alkhas had touched her inappropriately under her clothing. Dr. Alkhas was not charged with that crime since it fell outside the statute of limitations.

The Campbell Police Department is urging anyone who has concerns about Alkhas or who has knowledge of other potential victims to contact the Campbell Police Department at (408) 871-5190.

His sentencing is scheduled for October 30th.
