Caltrain tightens security along tracks in Palo Alto to prevent suicides

PALO ALTO (KRON) — Security is about to get tighter along the Caltrain tracks in Palo Alto.

It is part of its comprehensive plan to prevent suicides.

Infrared cameras are expected to be installed at the West Meadow crossing. They will be able to sense, via heat sensors, someone on or near the tracks up to a mile away.

It is hoped the cameras and the fence will help bring to an end a recent cluster of teen suicides in the area. For the most part, the Palo Alto High School students KRON4 spoke with think the measures will help by removing the immediate temptation.

But the students said the cameras are only part of the solution.
