SAN MATEO (KRON) — Caltrain has hit and killed a person who was illegally on the tracks in San Mateo Monday night, according to Communications Officer Tasha Bartholomew.
It happened at around 8:12 p.m. on the tracks at 25th Avenue in San Mateo. The train, No. 190, hit the person while it was going southbound, Bartholomew said.
Emergency crews are on the scene.
There were about 500 passengers onboard the No. 190 train.
Both No. 190 and northbound No. 193 are both holding during the investigation.
“NB Train # 193 has been terminated at Belmont and will go back south,” Bartholomew said. “A SamTrans bus bridge will assist passengers between the Belmont and Hayward Park Caltrain Stations.”

Passengers are being advised to expect delays of up to 90 minutes. This is Caltrain’s first fatality of 2016, according to transit officials.
