UPDATE 9:33 P.M.: Single-tracking will begin momentarily with speed restrictions of 10 miles per hour through the incident area.

The VTA bus bridge has been canceled.

Passengers on trains NB195 and SB190 should expect delays up to 30 minutes.

This is Caltrain’s fifth fatality of 2016.

“No matter what the circumstances, it is always regrettable when a life is lost. Caltrain reminds everyone to be safe around train tracks. Caltrain also would like to thank our passengers for their patience as we deal with these sad incidents. This is the final email about this incident,” Caltrain said in a statement.


UPDATE 9:27 P.M.: SB 288 has been released by the transit police and is on the move to the Sunnyvale Caltrain station.

Other delayed trains will begin single-tracking shortly. Currently, NB 195 is 20 minutes late and SB190 is 22 minutes late.


SUNNYVALE (KRON) — A Caltrain has hit a trespasser on the tracks just north of Mary Avenue in Sunnyvale, according to communications officer Tash Bartholomew.

It happened just after 8 p.m. and it involved southbound train No. 288. The pedestrian died, transit police said.

Emergency crews are on-scene. There are about 260 people onboard the train with no injuries reported to those on the train.

NB195 arrived in Sunnyvale and is currently 9 minutes behind schedule. SB190 is holding at Mountain View and is 13 minutes down, Bartholomew said.

No other information has been made available by police.
