A dog park in San Benito County is closed after a World War II-era practice bomb was found at the site.
The park is in Hollister and was once a Navy training area for torpedo bombers.
The practice bomb was safely removed but a scan of the area revealed other larger objects.
The city’s manager talked about the scan.
“What the scan has detected essentially was larger objects,” Hollister City Manager Bill Avera said. “The practice bomb that we found, it’s relatively small, it’s probably a foot or smaller. These are much larger items. Probably more in the size of a 55-gallon drum.”
The city is looking to hire an independent contractor to remove the objects.
They say it’ll be part of a larger renovation project to improve the park.
