Man accused of stealing more than 700 avocados from ranch

A California man was arrested after he allegedly stole more than 700 avocados worth $620 from a ranch in Nipomo.

In a statement, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said 37-year-old Christian Lara Medrano was caught on surveillance footage over the weekend at the Suey Ranch, located a little over 100 miles west of Bakersfield.

The manager told authorities he set up the cameras after noticing the ranch’s fence near the front gate had been cut repeatedly.

Medrano was seen driving near the gates but turned around once he saw authorities.

Authorities later found Medrano hiding in a bush.

Officials recovered around 730 Hass avocados worth an estimated $620 in his car along with a pair of wire cutters.

Authorities said Medrano allegedly sold the avocados to nearby restaurants and businesses.

He has been charged with grand theft and trespassing.
