Residents in Riverside County living under the flight path of LAX  are concerned for their safety after large chunks of ice fell in their driveways.

And some of the pieces of ice were huge. They’ve already caused some damage.

“I’m extremely fearful,” homeowner Angelica Coria said.

She is fearful when she sees planes flying over her Eastvale house because of what happened last night.

“Ice fell from the sky, and we don’t know what happened,” Coria said. “Check out these pieces of ice. This was over 25 minutes ago.”

“As we walked out, the pieces got bigger and bigger, and eventually, once we saw the piece up there, we were like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me!'” witness Edward Briseno said.

By the time they shot this video, much of the ice was melting or slushy.

Evidence points to the big chunk of ice smashing into a driveway, creating a crack about 30 feet long.

“If this came from an airplane at 10,000-to-12,000 feet, it was coming pretty rapidly,” retired airline pilot Ross Aimer said.

Aimer told CNN this area is in a flight path for descent into LAX.

Planes were overhead almost every minute.

Capt. Aimer said any source of leaking water on a plan can collect below it and quickly freeze at high altitude.

A big chunk of ice can drop from the plane as it descends.

The boys play hoops every night. Last night, they were in the house when this happened–in the house for a birthday party.

Ice falling from airplanes is not unprecedented in the state.

Last year, for example, a chunk of ice crashed through the roof of a home in Chino.
