LOS ANGELES (AP) – A registered nurse who owned a medical supply company has been sentenced in Los Angeles to four years in federal prison for her role in an $8.3 million Medicare fraud scheme.

The U.S. attorney’s office says Olufunke Fadojutimi was sentenced Wednesday. A judge also ordered payment of nearly $4.4 million in restitution.

Fadojutimi owned Lutemi Medical Supply in Carson, which falsely billed Medicare for more than $8 million in unnecessary medical equipment.

Authorities say the nurse and others used cash kickbacks to encourage doctors to write prescriptions for the equipment.

A jury convicted her last July of health care fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.
