SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) – The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has announced that there will be no rolling outages statewide Monday night.
Cal ISO posted to Twitter thanking people for conserving energy.
Earlier in the day, the Cal ISO was expecting rotating outages across the state, after declaring a Stage 2 emergency.
Between 6 and 7 pm the ISO expected outages to total up to 1,500 megawatts. No outages were ordered.
The ISO Tweeted at 6:28 pm anticipating that outages for the remainder of Monday night would impact less people.
For every Megawatt, a coal power station capacity can supply around 650 average homes, according to Eskom.
Napa County was notified by PG&E that power outages were likely.
Over 30,000 Berkeley residents were also contacted that they’d experience rotating blackouts of up to 5 hours. Additional blackouts may occur from 3 pm to 10 pm both Tuesday and Wednesday in Berkeley.
A statewide Flex Alert has been issued in California, which urges consumers to conserve energy during extremely hot weather, according to the ISO.
The ISO asks consumers to conserve energy by following these tips:
- Set thermostat at 78 degrees or higher
- Cool with fans and draw drapes
- Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances
- Use major appliances in morning or late evening
