OAKLAND (KRON) — The family of an 18-year-old Oakland woman who disappeared in the late 1990s believe they may have a break in her case, almost two decades after she went missing.
Kristen Modafferi, of North Carolina, was attending college in the Bay Area and was last seen inside the Crocker Galleria in San Francisco on June 23, 1997, according to police.
Modafferi’s family hired a private detective, who owns a cadaver dog, to help in the search. The dog appears to have picked up a scent of human remains near her former Oakland home on 200 block of Jayne Avenue.
The private detective called the Oakland police to report suspicious scent. Investigators are on the scene.
There is no evidence that Modefferi has been found.Stay with KRON 4 News for more on this developing story.
