SOUTH BAY (KRON) — Time is running out to mail packages before Christmas — but luckily for South Bay residents, post offices are extending their hours to accommodate the holiday hustle and bustle.
Crews have been working around the clock to make sure people get their mail and packages before Christmas.
What used to be termed as the “busiest mailing day” of the year has morphed into the “busiest week,’ thanks to online shopping.
Across the U.S., more than 200-million packages are expected to be processed and delivered this week.
The US Postal Service claims to have the most sophisticated mail processing and delivery network in the world.
Over a million cards and letters will pass through the San Francisco Processing and Distribution Center on Tuesday alone — one of the peak days of the week.
With significant growth in package volume, the post office has increased the number of automated parcels sorting machines so families can get their Christmas gifts on time.
Post offices in Cupertino, Monterey and San Jose will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, aiming to ease the stress of holiday shipping.
The following post offices will be open on Sunday:
21701 Steven Creek Boulevard, Cupertino
565 Hartnell Street, Monterey
128 Eastridge Mall, San Jose
1750 Lundy Avenue, San Jose
Remember, you have until Friday to mail your packages if you want it to arrive before Christmas, but by then you’ll have to overnight it.
