HAYWARD (BCN) — A burglary suspect thought to be armed and dangerous was taken into custody after a pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies Wednesday afternoon, according to Fremont police.

Fremont detectives were following up on a residential burglary in the vicinity of Carlos Bee Boulevard and Overlook Avenue in Hayward around 1 p.m. when they found a 20-year-old man and a vehicle thought to be connected to the burglary.

They tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly rammed an unmarked police vehicle. A detective standing next to the vehicle was able to get out of the way, and a second detective had to jump out of the

driver’s way as he allegedly attempted to hit them with his vehicle.

That’s when Hayward police joined the pursuit.

The driver went south on Mission Boulevard, where police say he attempted to run over an unspecified number of pedestrians.

He ditched his vehicle on St. Luke Court and fled on foot, according to police.

Officers from Hayward and Fremont, as well as deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, set up a perimeter. The suspect was found and taken into custody around 3:30 p.m.

Police believe he may also be connected to a burglary in Martinez Wednesday morning where a suspect driving the same vehicle fled from officers attempting a traffic stop.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, felony evasion, residential burglary and numerous other offenses, according to police.
