Burglars are now targeting the workers who are helping victims of the North Bay wildfires rebuild their homes.
On Thursday morning, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office received several reports of construction sites being burglarized.
At least five burglaries, in three locations, happened between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
“Victimizing people who are trying to rebuild their homes in the face of the worst disaster in Sonoma County history is completely unacceptable,” Sheriff Rob Giordano said.
Police say several tools were stolen from storage trailers at the sites.
They say the trailers were locked and some were even blocked by heavy equipment.
In the 100 block of Willowgreen Place, in the Larkfield burn zone, three storage trailers were broken into and had tools removed, police said. On the 80 block of Dorchester Lane, a single storage trailer was broken into and tools were also removed.
And in Windsor, near Hembree and Victory Lane, another construction trailer was broken into with tools removed, authorities said.
The sheriff’s department will now have extra patrols in all construction areas in the burn zones.
