Burglars break into Verizon store, steal fake phones

COLUMBUS (KRON) – Thieves in Ohio offer further proof that crime doesn’t pay. Burglars broke into a north Columbus Verizon store early Wednesday and made off with several fake cell phones.

Police say one or more people used large rocks to break the glass in the store’s back door and gain entry. Once inside, several phones were cut or ripped from the displays.

All of the display phones are not actually real phones and are of no value to the thieves.

Some significant damage was left behind, however, including broken glass, cut security cords, and damaged display cases.

Police say that the store has been the victim of theft in the past and store employees secure the real phones in a vault every night.Columbus news station WCMH contributed to this report.
