Cal Fire Saturday morning is reporting a brush fire near Big Sur has spread to about 2,000 acres.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s office on Friday night ordered mandatory evacuations of the Palo Colorado area due to the spreading brush fire.
The fire was threatening at least one structure early this morning.
Cal Fire reported Friday night the fire has burned 900 acres and was located about five miles south of Carmel Garrapata State Park.
An American Red Cross shelter has been open and active at Carmel Middle School at 4380 Carmel Valley Road.
Six evacuees and their pets were being housed at the shelter Friday night, according to the sheriff’s office.
