CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (BCN) — Deputies arrested a San Pablo man as a suspect in multiple burglaries in which distinctive bronze statues and other items were taken last month from a home in unincorporated Martinez, Contra Costa County sheriff’s officials said.
Charles Somers, 49, was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property in connection with the burglaries that deputies first responded to at 9:10 p.m. July 15 at a home in the 5000 block of Alhambra Valley Road.
Deputies responded again the next day at 1 p.m. to another burglary at the home and then at 8 p.m. the same day to find a 1995 Dodge 3500 extended cab truck stolen was from the home’s driveway, according to sheriff’s officials.
Somer’s is suspected of taking an 8-foot tri-colored, bronze Marc Anthony statue, an 8.5-foot tri-colored, bronze Cleopatra statue and a 4-foot tall, bronze Lady Justice statue.
Somers is also suspected of taking two bronze tiger statues, three bronze drinking pitchers, whiskey decanters, a mink-like coat and a tile saw, sheriff’s officials said.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office said they have recovered most of the items taken in the burglaries.
Detectives received tips after the burglaries of the location of the stolen property. At the location they found some bronze statues, whiskey decanters and other items.
Detectives then executed three search warrants at locations in the El Sobrante area where they found more items taken from the home.
Somers is being held in the county jail without bail. He’s also being held on a parole violation, sheriff’s officials said.
