In 2015, a 2-year-old Wisconsin boy nearly died from a mystery illness.
He had to have his fingers and toes amputated.
He survived, but the exact cause of his illness remained unknown.
Now, recent research indicates that it may have been caused by dog saliva.
That research shows the bacteria called Capnocytophaga may have entered Liam Young’s bloodstream and caused the infection.
All this comes after he was licked by a dog.
Liam’s dad was shocked after hearing a similar story out of Wisconsin.
One man had to had to have his legs and arms amputated because of the same bacteria.
However, the CDC says the chances of cases like this occurring are very rare.
