RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) – A bouncer at a Norco bar has been fired after he says helping a woman who had been assaulted disobeyed his boss’s orders.

The Press-Enterprise of Riverside reports that Joe Navarrete was working at Slick’s bar when a bloodied and panicked woman approached him saying she had just been attacked. He sat the woman in a chair, called 911 and waited with her.

Navarrete says Slick’s owner Simon Fangary told him to leave her and come inside, which he did not. He says he was later chastised for disobeying orders and calling 911, drawing negative attention to the business. He was subsequently fired.

Fangary says Navarrete was fired for other actions against bar policy, not the incident. He says he is legally restricted from discussing Navarrete’s termination.
