FLINT, Michigan (KRON) — The Beverage Marketing Corporation said bottled water is on the verge of becoming the most consumed beverage in the United States, according to CNN.
Bottled water consumption spiked more than 120 percent over the last 15 years, from nearly 17 gallons per person in 2000 to nearly 37 gallons per person in 2015.
Other beverages have dropped in recent years more than 16 percent. Those drinks include sodas, fruit beverages, energy drinks, sports drinks, tea, and even milk.
The Beverage Marketing Corporation said the switch to bottled water means people saved between 24,000 to 27,000 calories over that period.
It said that is the equivalent of 161 hotdogs, 87 cheeseburgers, or 126 chocolate donuts per person.CNN contributed to this report.
