The Napa Police Department released body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead who was wanted for allegedly hitting a woman.
Last Wednesday morning, a 911 call lead to a chase and ultimately a police shooting that killed 27-year-old David Molina.
On Monday, Napa’s police chief released edited 911 audio and edited police body camera video.
The footage shows officer Christopher Simas giving chase towards an apartment complex, through a park, over a fence and into a ravine.
“Despite officer Simas’ commands, Molina failed to comply over 31 times as counted,” authorities said.
Police say the chase when on for more than five minutes.
The officer finally catches up and is able to cuff one of the suspect’s hands but then things go horribly wrong.
The chief says that’s when the suspect grabs the officer’s AR-15 automatic rifle and fired it multiple times.
No one was hit.
Then over the next 20 seconds, another struggle. The officer was then able to regain control of his weapon.
Police say Molina then says some curse words, comes towards the officer, and, fearing for his life, the officer discharges his weapon.
Police found a firearm Molina was reportedly carrying 75 feet from where the shooting occured.
The shooting is still under investigation.
