Authorities are investigating after the body of a patient was found in a stairwell of a building at San Francisco General Hospital Wednesday afternoon.
Police say the body of 76-year-old Ruby Lee Anderson was discovered in the stairway of the power plant building around 1 p.m. by a member of hospital staff.
Anderson, a dementia patient, was reported missing from SF General Mental Health on May 20.
It is not part of the hospital where patients or staff members would normally be walking around. It is occupied mostly by maintenance and engineering staff.
The case is being investigated by the Department of Public Health, San Francisco Sheriff, and other agencies.
Investigators are combing through surveillance video.
In 2013, a patient named Lynn Spalding went missing from the hospital and was later found dead in the stairwell.
The hospital did make security changes after Spalding’s death.
