(BCN) — The body of a Colorado man was recovered Thursday morning from Dry Creek in an unincorporated area of Sonoma County near Healdsburg, a Sonoma County sheriff’s sergeant said today.

Sgt. Cecile Focha identified the man as 36-year-old Elan Mulholland-Wynants of Boulder, Colorado. An autopsy might be conducted today, Focha said.

A passerby in a vehicle spotted the body in the water near Lambert Bridge around 9:50 a.m. and called 911, Focha said.

The Geyserville Fire Protection District and the Healdsburg and Cloverdale fire departments also responded, Geyserville Fire Protection District Capt. James Tovani said.

Tovani said he, Capt. Joe Stewart from his department and Healdsburg firefighter Amanda Newhall entered the waist-deep water to retrieve the body.

Mulholland-Wynants was wearing only boxer shorts and his body was slumped against a rock protruding from the creek, Tovani said.

Mulholland-Wynants was visiting family in the area, and nothing about his death appears suspicious at this time, Focha said. He was familiar with the terrain and there is no information how he ended up in the rain-swollen creek, Focha said.
