SANTA CRUZ (BCN)—A body recovered off of the Santa Cruz coast Monday afternoon has been identified as 24-year-old Haus Dang, who was reported missing earlier this month, according to police and Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

Dang, a Utah resident, was last seen on Aug. 20 when he jumped from a cliff near Lighthouse Point State Park and his body was found in the water off of West Cliff Drive on Monday afternoon, police and fire officials said.

There was no indication that Dang planned to harm himself or was involved in foul play, according to police.

Dang was seen by witnesses screaming for help after jumping into the area of the water nicknamed the “toilet bowl,” which is known for being erratic, Fire Battalion Chief Josh Coleman said.

Rescue crews searched for Dang on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 by air, ground and in the water, but found no signs of him, Coleman said.

An online fundraiser has been created to raise money for Dang’s funeral through the website GoFundMe.

Dang arrived to California for a construction job to help a struggling family member a couple of weeks before the fatal accident, a post on the page said.

“Haus was too young, charismatic and full of life to have this happen to him. He will forever be missed by everyone who had been lucky enough to know him,” the post said.

The page has raised $5,740 of its $10,000 goal as of this morning. Donations can be made online at https://www.gofundme.com/25k8vcvx.
