ALAMEDA COUNTY (KRON) — A new billboard in the East Bay is calling for the removal of Judge Aaron Persky, who sentenced ex- Stanford swimmer Brock Turner to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on campus.
Since the sentencing, Persky has received a lot of backlash, including a petition calling for his removal. Now, drivers along Highway 92 can read the billboard that reads, “Protect survivors, not rapists.”
It is located a half-mile west of Clawiter Road, facing east.
“Santa Clara County prosecutors, Bay Area jurors, thousands of Stanford students and more than 1 million UltraViolet members from California to New York agree: Judge Aaron Persky should be removed from the bench. By protecting a rapist over the survivor of his crimes, Persky has undermined confidence in our judicial system and is unfit to provide justice for the survivors of sexual assault,” UltraViolet co-founder Nita Chaudhary said. “The California Commission on Judicial Performance should take this opportunity to restore public trust in our courts by removing Judge Persky immediately and declaring that rape apologists have no place in our justice system.”
UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, launched the billboard on Tuesday. The billboard is digital and is part of a rotating set of ads.
It will be up for four weeks.
