PLEASANTON (KRON) — Traffic is a mess on Interstate 580 due to a big rig fire and multiple accidents in Pleasanton Tuesday morning.
The crash was first reported at around 6 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-580 at the Hopyard Road exit, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol.
The tractor trailer was carrying 20 tons of industrial batteries when a small accident ignited the batteries.
The fire has been extinguished but the truck is now stuck in the road.
The tractor truck cannot be towed away until the batteries are removed from the truck.
Drivers should expect major delays on I-580 all morning long.
CHP officers estimate that the lanes will reopen by 10 a.m.
The batteries are not hazardous, according to officials.
