BERKELEY (KRON) — A bicyclist in Berkeley was seriously hurt Tuesday afternoon in a crash, police said.

Officers responded to the area of Fulton Street and Bancroft Way at around 4:57 p.m. on the report of a crash involving a bicycle and car, Berkeley police Ofc. Jennifer Coats said.

“The bicyclist appears to have been dragged by the vehicle and was pinned underneath when it came to a stop. Berkeley Fire Department was able to raise the vehicle and pull her out,” Coats said in a press release.

The 42-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital, police said. The driver, who police have identified as 47-year-old Berwick Haynes of Sunnyvale, has been arrested for driving under the influence, according to Coats.

Investigators have closed southbound Fulton Street between Bancroft and Kittredge.

Drivers should use alternate routes, Coats said.
