A bicyclist was killed Thursday afternoon after he was hit by a big-rig truck in Lafayette. 

At approximately 12:28 p.m. the Lafayette Police Department received a report of a possible hit-and-run involving a big-rig truck and cyclist in the 1800 block of Reliez Valley Road. 

Responding officers found an injured bicyclist on the ground. 

He was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to John Muir Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. 

The victim was identified as Martin Nelis, who worked as a public information officer for the City of Pleasant Hill. 

Officers later located the truck and driver involved.
