SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A bicyclist was killed Friday night after a collision with a marked police car in San Francisco.
The collision occurred around 9 p.m. on Persia Avenue at a bend in the road near Sunnydale Avenue, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
The victim was a man in his 20s riding a fixed gear bike. Esparza says it’s unclear how the collision happened, and whether the police car collided with the bicycle, or the other way around.
Following the collision, the officers stopped and called for an ambulance, but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Traffic Collision Investigations and Crime Scene Investigations units responded to the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
Esparza said the department’s thoughts go out to the bicyclist’s family as well as the two officers involved in the incident.
The department will conduct an administrative process that will include a toxicology sample for the driver, Esparza said.
