SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A bicyclist was hit and killed by a car in Golden Gate Park on Wednesday night, according to San Francisco police officer Carlos Manfredi.
It happened at around 6 p.m. on John F Kennedy Drive near 30th Avenue, police said.
The vehicle, described as a white Honda, sped away from the scene after hitting the cyclist, police said. The bicyclist was rushed to the hospital but ultimately died as a result of the injuries.
The suspect vehicle reportedly was overtaking another car and hit the bicyclist traveling in the opposite direction.
An abandoned vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle was discovered nearby. Investigators are working to confirm that the abandoned vehicle is indeed the suspect vehicle.
The driver of the suspect vehicle remains at large.
