BERKELEY (KRON) — A routine traffic stop in Berkeley on Monday resulted in the arrest of two men and the apprehension of a stolen gun.

Berkeley Police pulled the car over on the 1800 block of University Avenue around 10:30 a.m.

The driver, 20-year-old DeAndre Bess of Oakland, was driving on a suspended license and had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence, according to police.

The backseat passenger, 18-year-old Timothy George Jr. of Berkeley, was ordered to get out of the car after police noticed he was trying to hide a firearm under his shirt, police said.

Upon searching George, police found a loaded handgun.

When officers ran the gun’s serial number, they discovered the firearm had been reported stolen in August after an auto burglary in Vallejo.

The daughter of the car owner, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was released at the scene and the car was towed.

Police said Bess was arrested for driving on a suspended license and the warrant.

George was booked for carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of stolen property.

Both are being held at the City of Berkeley Jail.
