Two car break-ins in Berkeley within hours of each other in the middle of the day were caught on camera, and the suspect is still on the loose.
“Move it out of the visible windows and put it in the trunk,” Berkeley resident Louisa Lynn said.
Most people know what to do when they park their car.
“The main thing I kind of do is make sure I put my valuables in the trunk before and make sure nothing is in visible sight,” another resident Zaheer Ebtikar said.
But on Sunday afternoon in Berkeley, police say this man smashed the windows of two cars taking items inside.
“I think more and more people should be aware of what’s happening,” Ebitkar said.
The first car break-in happened on Bancroft Way in the Banway Building parking lot.
The second, also on the south side of campus on Haste Street, less than 2 hours later in the Underhill Parking lot, the suspect was also caught on camera looking into other cars parked in the area.
“Lock my door, park in parking lots versus streets, and lighting, looking for a place that is well-lit,” Khattab McIntosh said.
Police say the suspect was driving this car–a tan 1998 Nissan Pathfinder with California license plate number 4DWF261.
