A Berkeley firm donated 180 tons of asphalt to the Delancey Street Foundation to repair the parking lot of the foundation’s moving company, the firm’s officials said Friday.

The foundation’s moving company at 5700 Third St. is part of a larger organization that helps people with drug addictions, criminal records and the homeless reenter society.

San Francisco Supervisor Malia Cohen requested the donation from the Berkeley firm Lehigh Hanson as Cohen represents the residents who live in the part of the city where the foundation’s moving company is located, Lehigh Hanson officials said.

The value of the asphalt is $13,000.

“We recognize the budget constraints of nonprofit organizations and view this as an excellent opportunity for us to give back to our local community,” Vice President and General Manager of Lehigh Hanson’s Bay Area operations Marcelo Barajas said in a statement.
