OAKLAND (KRON) — It was almost a year ago that a Berkeley teenager was shot and killed outside an Oakland fast food restaurant.

18-year-old Ayana Dominguez was shot while she and her boyfriend were inside a car at the Wendy’s restaurant near the intersection of Fruitvale Avenue and International Boulevard. The couple was getting food in the drive-thu when a man who was on food shot up their car.

Dominguez’s boyfriend was also shot, but survived his injuries.

Oakland police don’t think that the teen was the intended target. At a news conference Monday, they also said that they think more than one person is responsible for her death.

Police have been investigating her death, but almost a year later, they haven’t been able to close it. They are hoping that people who saw the shooting will come forward with information.

Dominguez’s family is also hoping police find the people responsible; not just for closure, but also to get a murderer off the street.
