BENICIA (KRON) — A 23-year-old man is fighting for his life Tuesday night with his family at his bedside while police search for the driver who hit him.

The man’s sister called this station to report that the victim remains in a medically induced coma.

On Sunday morning at about 2:08 a.m., the Benicia Police Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of East 5th St and Military East. Officers determined a vehicle traveling westbound Military East had hit the victim then left the scene of the accident.

Benicia Fire Department Paramedics arrived on scene and provided medical aid to the pedestrian. The victim, Louis Miguel Torres, was then transported by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. He was being treated for head injuries and other injuries related to this accident.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Benicia Police Department. The vehicle involved in this accident is still outstanding, police said.

The vehicle has been described as an older model Honda or Nissan sedan, gray or silver in color and it is missing the left rear hub cap. If you have any information as to the identity of the owner or driver of this vehicle please call Benicia Police at (707) 745-3412.
