The National Weather Service has released a Beach Hazard Statement warning beachgoers of a great threat of sneaker waves.
Around 6 a.m. on Saturday the warning went into effect along the coast from Sonoma County to Monterey County and will continue into the afternoon.
Those who are heading to the beach are being warned of a heightened risk of unexpected large waves that could come up farther on the beach and without any warning.
These types of waves could sweep people off the beach and into the water.
The NWS advises all to never turn your back on the ocean as waves could come suddenly.
