MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WBAY) – The Better Business Bureau serving Wisconsin is warning people about a gift exchange that appears to be a pyramid scheme.
The “Holiday Wine Bottle Exchange,” which is found on social media, says the sender needs between six and 36 wine lovers to participate in a secret wine bottle exchange. It tells people that they need to buy one bottle of wine worth about $15 and then “send it to another wine lover.”
The post promises those who participate that they’ll receive between six and 36 bottles in return, but the BBB says it’s too good to be true.
The exchange is similar to the “Secret Sister Gift Exchange” scheme in which people are urged to send $10 and receive up to 36 gifts in return.
Pyramid schemes and gift chains like this are illegal. Anyone who finds something like this is asked to contact the BBB.
