SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — San Jose police say a woman was killed early Friday morning in a hit-and-run.

It happened near the intersection of Tully Rd and La Ragione Avenue just after 1:30 a.m. According to their preliminary investigation, she was walking outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by what police described as an “early 2000’s red SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe.”

The unidentified driver fled after the strike.

Police had closed the 800 block of Tully Rd in both directions to investigate what happened, but the road was reopened by 6 a.m.

The woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Her identity will be released at a later time by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.

This is San Jose’s 31st traffic death of the year and 12th pedestrian death, police said.
