A Winter Spare the Air Alert has been issued in the Bay Area for Monday by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
This alert bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both inside and outside for 24 hours.
Due to light winds and cold temperatures expected heading into Sunday night, this will be the 16th Winter Spare the Air Alert of the season. These conditions are expected to cause unhealthy air quality in the area.
“Burning wood in your fireplace causes smoke pollution to build up in your neighborhood as well as inside your own home,” said Jack Broadbent, executive officer of the Bay Area Air District. “Protect your health as well as the health of your family and neighbors by not burning wood.”
