Traffic on Interstate 880 in Oakland was at a complete stop in both directions due to downed power lines just south of 23rd Ave.

KRON4’s Will Tran was one of the thousands stuck in the halted traffic.

He says California Highway Patrol was on scene.

CHP said live wires were creating a safety hazard on the freeway.

Construction crews told officers the power lines and a transformer came down on their own around 3:30 a.m.

PG&E crews responded and all lanes were cleared by 5:10 a.m.

Plan ahead for residual delays. Interstate 580 can be used as an alternative route.
