Murder charges were filed Thursday against an undocumented immigrant who is accused of brutally murdering a San Jose woman.
The suspect, 24-year-old Carlos Carranza, was charged with first-degree murder, burglary and special circumstances that could send him to prison for life.
Carranza is accused in the murder of 59-year-old Bambi Larson.
Police say he stabbed Larson to death inside her Knollfield Way home.
Evidence includes surveillance video that shows Carranza stalking the victim and her neighborhood.
In a statement of facts, prosecutors say Larson suffered deep stab wounds to her neck and torso.
Investigators say that when Carranza was arrested, he had a seven-inch folding knife on him.
His DNA matches blood evidence found at the crime sence. He was also in possession of Larson’s Kindle and cellphone.
His arrest led to the revelation that he is an undocumented immigrant with a long criminal history and had been repeatedly released from jail despite nine different detainer requests by federal immigration authorities.
In a statement, the family of Bambi Larson thanked San Jose police for their “persistence in gathering the evidence necessary to arrest the person responsible for Bambi’s death.”
