Much of the region is under a Red Flag Warning amid summer-like fire conditions.
Included in that alert this time is the Santa Cruz Mountains.
At Cal Fire’s helicopter attack base near Los Gatos, it may be November, but fire danger is still very high amid low humidity, an abundance of ready-to-burn, vegetation, and high winds.
It’s windy, and it’s going to stay that way for the next couple of days. The wind is strongest at the higher elevations, but these eucalyptus trees in the hills near Lexington Reservoir are a sign that this latest Red Flag Warning is a bit different.
But this warning is different from earlier alerts issued by Cal Fire, says Division Chief Jim Crawford.
“We’ve had high-level winds with the other ones that didn’t come down to the surface, where this time, we’re seeing a bit more winds at lower elevations,” Crawford said.
In the North Bay, Pacific Gas and Electric Company notified about 70,000 customers it may turn off power in portions of nine counties, including Napa and Sonoma, because of red flag conditions.
But PG&E said on Thursday that will not happen.
