SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Hundreds of people flying out of the San Francisco International Airport are experiencing delays and cancellations.

This is a result of not only the inclement weather we are experiencing in the Bay Area but also in the Northeast.

“A lot of it is local weather here, low ceilings. And a lot of it is weather in the northeast like New York has ice, Boston has low ceilings, as well. So that is contributing to a lot of the weather and delays,” SFO Duty Manager Anthony Nguyen said.

The airport was packed with thousands of people flying out after the Thanksgiving holiday.

“I’m just paranoid about getting here on time, so yeah, we just came early to make sure we get in,” SFO flyer, Patrick McConnell, said.

Those who are experiencing a delay say it’s extremely stressful especially if you are flying internationally.

“Because you’ve got all these plans and then a one hour delay means you might not make your connecting flight to a foreign country and suddenly you’re stuck in Los Angeles, which is pretty scary,” McConnell said.

Others dealing with a similar situation were scrambling to figure out what to do while others slept in the airport during the wait.

At times, the security line at Terminal 2 was longer than they were the day before Thanksgiving.

Travelers kept double checking if their flights were on time as it could be delayed or canceled at any time.

The Airport Duty Manager shared a few tips for people flying out of SFO on Monday.

“So for travelers coming to the airport, allow a lot, a lot of time. The Roads are slick causing some traffic, always check with the airline for flight status,” Nguyen said.

On Sunday there were a total of 594 delays and 169 cancelations, but on Monday we could see even more so with that combined with the traffic heading in.

On average, delays were up to four and a half hours.
